Adam J Sporka is an assistant professor at the Department of Computer Graphics and Interactions of the Czech Technical University in Prague, Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Adam received his MSc (2003) and PhD (2008) degrees at the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague. At the same school, he has given courses on human-computer interaction (HCI), programming, and database systems, and supervised more than 15 MSc or BSc theses. He recently finished his two-year appointment at the University of Trento as a senior Marie Curie research fellow.
In his research, he has been focusing on the non-verbal vocal input for emulation of input devices of personal computing equipment. He wrote or contributed to more than 20 papers and articles published in scientific journals and proceedings of various international conferences. He presented his work in about 10 conference talks in Europe, US, and Brazil, and 5 invited talks in the Czech Republic and Italy. He has participated in numerous projects at the Department of Computer Science at CTU Prague, including ENORASI, VHCE, and i2home. He contributed to the proposal of the project Vital Mind that is currently being solved at the department. In his previous appointment at the University of Trento he focused on the effects of personality on the user experience of the spoken user interfaces. At the CTU he continues his previous research on the accessibility of user interfaces.
Adam is an active member of the scientific community. He has been a reviewer for various international conferences, including ACM CHI 2008 and 2009. He helped organize numerous international academic events, including the EUROGRAPHICS 2007 conference. He is a member of the organizing committee of CHI 2010. As a student volunteer, he had taken part in each ACM CHI conference since 2004. He was one of the organizers of a first workshop on non-verbal vocal interaction at the ACM CHI 2007 conference.
Adam is also a musician and graphic designer. Occasionally he collaborates with OneCode, a Czech-based software company and web design studio.
