Other Design and Experimental Projects

This page contains a short overview of different pieces of programming or creative work that I could not fit anywhere else.

Segment Display Layout

(2007) My friend Brock Craft asked me to design a segment display that would be able to represent all digits and letters of English alphabet using as little segments as possible.

This is a demo of the 8-segment font with segments shaped in a style that perhaps reminds Art Nouveau a bit:

Rendering Icons with Icons

(2007) Icons of nyx.cz members rendered using other icons of nyx.cz members :-).

ID JAMINA ID ADAMJ ID LUCKYSWEETY ID ANGUA ID MIKEE ID KVITKO

Note: I have not created the icons themselves, nor the elementary icons used to compose the large icons; those are works of their respective authors — well, except for my own icon, being the second one from the left, the little giraffe.

VirtualDub Bilinear Transformation Filter

This filter for the VirtualDub utility allows to perform a bilinear transformation on every frame of a video stream. Extremely handy for removal of the trapezoid distortion of the picture (e.g. to straighten the 8mm film projections acquired with a videocamera.) Implemented using the Intel Image Processing Library which, I’m afraid, you’re gonna need to find on your own because I am not sure my license allows me to redistribute.

Some programs in OPL for Psion Revo

(2001 – 2002) Some time ago, I bought a Diamond Mako palmtop, a Psion Revo machine clone. These are some programs I wrote in the OPL, the World’s Best Basic ever :-). You will need the Program application installed in your machine in order to run this.

  • Fractal geometry. I wrote these scripts in order to have a platform to show people, what the fractal geometry is.
  • Hypno. A simple visual perception plaything. Just watch the centers of the circles for some twenty seconds and then look at any straight edge around you. (Make sure your health condition allows you to do such things.) Anyway, it’s a good example of work with bitmaps in the OPL, too. (coming soon)
  • Cards. A simple implementation of the game of patience. The rules are a bit different than those of the famous implementation in Windows (and the graphics is rather minimalistic) but the program works, though. cards.zip Note: There are some graphic resources to be loaded. The program expects them to be located in c:\projects\cards on your internal disk. So please, decompress this archive right there. (Been too lazy to do some current directory detection or something, sorry...) (coming soon)

OCR using a backpropagation network

(1999 – 2000) This was my semestrial project in the Neural Networks and Neurocomputers subject. A working implementation of a page OCR system had been implemented.

KeyMap – A DOS Keyboard Driver

(1998 – 1999) This was my semestral project in the Assembly Language subject. A built-in keyboard layout editor included!

3D Koch Snowflake

(2000) A semestral project I delivered in the Introduction to Computer Graphics course.
